Ashley exemplifies all of the attributes an excellent nurse is and should be. She is passionate about our patients and displays this through each of her interactions with those she cares for. She can be regularly seen building mutual respect and providing emotional support by sitting at the bedside with the patients and families for explanation of plans of care, holding a patient's hand who is confused or anxious, giving a patient one of her own pairs of shoes so they would not go home without, consistently advocating for patients who may not be able to voice this on their own, being firm with patients who need a stronger guiding hand (recently pulled together the attending MD, consulting MD, and PCP for a meeting to address the patient's pain and plan moving forward, including explaining what the patient's expectations were at discharge). Ashley is recognized weekly by the patients and families who are blessed enough to have had the experience of her care.
Ashley has a passion for all patients and has written, developed, and led training opportunities for all of our inpatient associates around patient experience. Not only was this a fun experience for associates, having a peer step forward to engage the team in this manner has not only benefitted our patients and families but has also strengthened the team on her unit. Each associate knows that when asking for help, the answer will always be "yes" and with a smile!
Ashley's enthusiasm for providing excellent patient care is contagious and she has the ability to rally the team on any given shift. She is viewed as a leader and has the mutual trust and respect of her team. She has also worked on hospital and system teams related to patient experience, filled an interim leadership role, and cross-trained to other units of the hospital to offer support during periods of transition.
Ashley has consistently gone above and beyond in numerous ways to assist our patients, her team, and St. Michael's. Thank you, Ashley.
