We had the pleasure of meeting Archer on November 24, 2013, when he was caring for my Grandfather. On that Sunday evening, Archer listened to our family concerns about what had initially brought my grandfather into the hospital.

My grandfather called me to take him to the hospital. He had slurred speech and was talking funny, dizziness, weakness and was off balance with walking. Archer advocated for the family to be able to talk directly to one of the covering team residents. He also had just finished on our arrival getting pain medication orders. Nothing else that Archer tried seemed to make him comfortable (warm packs, Ben gay, etc). He persisted until he got a stronger pain medicine to actually help my grandfather finally feel comfortable that evening.

Archer was professional during the entire visit. He gave my grandfather dignity, respect and compassion when caring for him. Archer listened to our family concerns and addressed them and us to the appropriate people to help coordinate my grandfather's medical care.

I strongly believe that Archer Johnston should receive the DAISY Award because I feel he saved my grandfather's life with his prompt excellent nursing decisions and care, his dedication to not only the veterans but their families, and the confidence and trust he built with us in that short visit as a demonstration of his high quality nursing skill.
