April Pate ~ On night shift, April is very active on the unit Recognition and Retention Committee going above and beyond looking for donations to give out to staff. She also always works on getting a family set up at Christmas for the unit to support as well as an animal shelter (pets are people too). Apart from being a very generous and giving person where staff are concerned, April consistently extends herself where patients are concerned. She is always bringing in a stash of stickers for the peds patients to help make procedures a little less trying. April never hesitates to bring in items for patients to use such as hair care items to use in braiding long hair or cute holders for our peds kids.

April was given high praise by two families a while back. She was in charge in the PICU one night when two young teens came in after a car accident. Both had devastating head injuries that eventually resulted in their families opting to have their organs donated to help others. April once again extended herself by ensuring that the PICU rooms were ready in a very short amount of time so that the patients could be brought up instead of having to wait in the emergency room. Before family could make it up and back to see their loved ones, April had helped staff to get them cleaned up so that their families could see them as they always looked instead of how they looked as trauma patients. The families were very appreciative of this effort.
