As a patient who comes for an infusion each month, I expected to become friendly with the nurse administering my infusion; but friendly does not adequately describe how well April has cared for me and the other patients I observe while in the chair. From the beginning, April remembered so much—about my daughter, to my job, to where I live etc. Knowing I work in advertising, April will often start by saying "I saw a commercial on TV that made me think of you.." When I ask questions about tests or meds, without hesitation she prints out information for me. When I confided that I wanted to get well and try to have another baby, she went out and purchased a pendant of St. Nicholas for me and told me that everyone she's ever purchased one for has gone on to become pregnant. Honestly, just writing this down brings tears to my eyes—the idea that this woman, who probably has hundreds of patients, went out to pick this up for me; it meant so much!
April embodies that cool confidence, matched with the personal attention that makes patients feel like they matter—that they are understood inside and out, through and through. To leave an infusion feeling like you left a good gossip session instead of a medical procedure is a true gift. To know that your medical team is rooting for you is one too! I am so grateful for April, and for all these reasons it gives me great pleasure to nominate her for a DAISY Award.
Thank you, April!
