Jacob, caring for a patient on this particular evening, was sitting with a family who was saying goodbye to their loved one prior to their passing and then going to the OR with Donor Network. They spoke of the individual and her love for her animals and how it was impossible for any of them to take them in. After shared conversation and thoughts with the family, Jacob spoke to his charge nurse, Anne, and relayed the story of this individual's Standard Poodle puppy, Izzy, who was in need of an immediate home.
Upon learning this information, Anne went to the Emergency Department finding Jen (the gal that everyone knows loves Standard Poodles) to tell her of Izzy. With every detail of Izzy and her owner that Anne offered, it took all of one minute for Jen to accept Izzy into her family. Jen went to ICU with Anne and Jacob to meet Izzy's mom and family. Tears of appreciation were shared, knowing that they could return home and that Izzy would have a family to love her. Jen went home that morning from work, woke her husband and children and went to meet and pick up Izzy.
Serendipitously, neither Anne nor Jen were scheduled to work that particular night. They had both come into work extra that evening. Everything happens for a reason, putting us exactly where we are supposed to be at any given moment allowing us to touch lives and make a difference.
Thank you, Jen, Anne, and Jacob for touching so many lives and most especially Izzy's!
