I was a patient who had surgery and was given medication for itching. Approximately 3-5 minutes after receiving the medication intravenously, I began to have a terrible reaction. The nurse and charge nurse assigned to me were telling me to lay back and relax because they thought I was having a panic attack. I kept telling them that I wasn't. I felt that I was slipping away. Luckily, Anna walked by and noticed the commotion. She listened to me and immediately began to take charge. I could hear her giving the other nurses orders--somebody check her vitals--turn up her O2--oh no...something about my vitals--then she said "get the crash cart and some Narcan!" She was talking to me the whole time, comforting me. She never left me until I was out of the woods. I feel I owe her my life. Thank God for Anna. This is the type of nurse she is--always ready to help, quick thinking on her feet--a life saver, a REAL NURSE.
