Ann was our overnight nurse while my husband was admitted for a pulmonary embolism. All the nurses were incredibly helpful and kind, but she went above and beyond. Every time anyone came into our room, she came with them to explain what was happening and why.
Before she was our nurse, nobody had explained why they kept drawing blood, even though we commented on the amount they kept on taking every time. She explained that because of the medicine they had him on, they needed to monitor his levels every six hours. She also explained why they were coming in and doing another EKG. She explained why they were discontinuing one medicine and increasing another, etc. This all was extremely helpful in understanding his care and what we could expect.
In addition, Ann was paramount in the comfort of my husband. He is 6'8" tall and doesn't fit in a normal-sized hospital bed. She went above and beyond to not only get him a longer bed but also got our room switched to a larger room so we would be more comfortable on our lengthy stay.
Finally, Ann worked amazingly with other members of the staff. Like I said previously, every time someone came into the room, she came with them. This included the clinical assistant. She did not just leave the assistant to do vitals or clean my husband (who was unable to get up and thus needed frequent cleaning), she came in and helped every single time. All of this on top of her extremely cheery disposition was greatly appreciated during a time when worry, stress, and fatigue all took over.
