Angela is an inspiring nurse who haspracticed atMMC for 26 years. Her knowledge and experience are vital to the ACCU department. Not only doesAngela advocate for the nurses she works with but is a very attentive advocate for her patients. Angelaexplains in every detail to the patients what they can expect during their procedures and gives themconfidence and assurance that they are in the right hands. She is atrueleader, always jumping to help withadmissions, discharges, or concerns that any of the nursing staff may have.
Angelatruly takes care of her team and goes above and beyond to ensure her patients are safelybeing cared for. One situation in particular involved a patient who was admitted to ACCU and stayedfornumerous nights. This patient had an internal ostomy and was very anemic. Hestayed on our unit until hewas stableenoughto receive coronary artery bypass surgery. Prior to surgery, Angela contacted the woundcarenurse, and CTICU nurse to come see the patientso she could educate them on how to use thepatient'sinternal ostomy. This helped ease the patient's anxiety about his upcoming surgery and gave him muchconfidence.
Ina fast-paced nursing environment with numerous admissions and discharges, Angela alwaysmakes a positive impact on her patients. She is always welcoming and consoling to the patients whovisitACCU on a regular basis, whether it be atransplant patient coming in oncea yearfor their annualcatheterization, or an LVAD patient that has procedures more often, she greets them with a hug and asmile, knows them on a first name basis, and the patients always ask for her to be theirnurse.
