As a nurse leader for our outpatient infectious disease clinic, Angela has long established a nurturing culture. A culture that not only exemplifies excellence in patient care and staff comradery but that serves as a model for education and mutual learning.
Under Angela's guidance, our clinic has consistently received the highest praise from our patients, reflected time and again by top box scores in Press Ganey surveys. A common theme from our patients is how they feel cared for, listened to and valued as a person. This sentiment is not limited to patients; it is strongly echoed amongst staff as well, who feel comforted and empowered by both a leader and a mentor who understands them.
These sentiments are, in no small part, due to the culture that Angela has fostered. A culture of respect and dignity; a culture of comradery and caring. In a large clinic with 13 providers, 45+ staff of various disciplines (i.e. nursing, medical assistants, social work, administrative assistants), this is no small task. She leads by example, emphasizing the importance of understanding why things are done and how to do them better. She empowers staff to teach each other and to better help their patients. She pinch hits, when help is needed, no matter what. From her open-door policy, always making herself available to patients and staff, to small group focus meetings; from "lunch and learn" educational staff sessions, to daily clinic huddles—these are the incubators that have spawned individual growth and collective development.
Angela's impact has been felt not just within the clinic environment. She tirelessly advocates beyond our clinic confines, from encouraging staff participation in fund drives that support the clinic's HIV care mission, to volunteering in educational outreach efforts.
Thanks to Angela, these amazing qualities have not only defined our clinic but have embodied the best of Emory Healthcare. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to share with you the character of a truly special and giving person. Angela is a true DAISY Nurse.
