On this day, we had a true prolapsed cord and for those of you who don't know, that could mean life or death of an infant. I'm the surgical tech on the labor and delivery floor, and I received the call we were going back for an emergency c-section. The nurse involved in this patient's care was Anelise Hardacre. She immediately recognized she was feeling a cord and not the baby's head. The whole nursing staff ran to the rescue and to help get the patient to the OR. Anelise had to ride on the bed with the patient, trying to hold the baby from pressing on the cord. Anelise turned into superwoman. She remained very calm and in control, she was very professional in an emergent situation. She communicated clearly and effectively. The strength and courage she showed was something a seasoned nurse would have done.
I just wanted to let somebody know how proud I am to work with Anelise. She demonstrated excellent clinical and critical thinking skills. After the baby was born, we all took a deep breath and looked at each other. Right then, we all realized how quickly life can begin or end. I am grateful to work with such a wonderful nursing staff and work side by side with Anelise in the OR.
