Andy has served as a pediatric/ neonatal critical care transport nurse with LifeLine for 10+ years. He has served IU Health as a nurse since 2002. Andy sets the bar in delivering clinical care and embodying the values of IU Health. He is an expert clinician who truly treats every patient as though they are his own child. He brings the clinical skill set of an expert while showing the compassion of a father to everyone he serves.
While Andy is, without doubt, one of our finest providers and team members, I also want to recognize him today for his engagement and support of team members and leaders throughout the organization. Andy serves as a preceptor for our neonatal/pediatric nurses. He not only works to develop clinical skills and build confidence but goes the extra mile by teaching others the logistics and challenges associated with transport. He is deeply engaged in LifeLine's safety committee and has constantly given of himself through precepting, leading survival/safety training, and leading the mobile ICU (MICU) re-design committee to bring excellence to our patients, family members, and team through the patient-centered focus of vehicle development.
Andy functions every day as a servant leader who makes everyone around him better: better providers, better people, and better leaders. As a leader within our team, I have asked Andy to formally transition to a leadership role on several occasions. His answer is both profound and exemplifies (in my mind) what The DAISY Award is all about. He feels that serving patients remains his "purpose" and calling. Even more humbling, he believes that he can do the most meaningful work by serving side by side with other clinicians as they grow in the organization. His focus on serving both patients and team members exemplify his character and selfless nature.
Andy is the finest example of a LifeLine nurse who can bring calm to chaos and bring hope to the situations where it was previously lost. I am honored to know such a humble man and an incredible representative of what nursing excellence looks like in everyday performance. Andy is, without a doubt, the provider that our patients demand on their worst day and the team member we can all align around to be a supportive calm in any storm.
