I felt that Andrea was personally dedicated to me from her first introduction, and it seemed like I was her only patient and highest priority.
I believe Andrea is a perfect candidate to receive the DAISY Award. As Vice President and General Manager of KEZI-TV (30 years with the station), I have extensive experience with customer service, employee training, mentoring, and leading all employees to work toward the common goal of overall excellence, and instilling the culture of going above and beyond to give our viewers and advertisers the KEZI "Wow Factor." This nurse has the "it" factor.
My illness with Influenza B and pneumonia started, and it became necessary to finally be admitted to the hospital to get to the bottom of my problem. Turns out my pneumonia turned into sepsis. As you can imagine, I was sick, worried, and frankly scared. This is where Andrea's expertise comes into play. I felt that she was personally dedicated to me from her first introduction, and it seemed like I was her only patient and highest priority. She truly listened to me. She understood and consoled my concerns and anxiety regarding the length of my illness and the seriousness of the possible outcomes.
Her special connection to me and my particular situation had me wondering if she was a nursing manager or lead nurse or charge nurse. Her attitude and "all-in" support of me and my specific illness and treatment plan were obvious, and a huge help to me as I was going through physical and emotional struggles. Her ability to connect with a 55-year-old man was astounding. She was passionate about her work and my care, explaining in comforting detail every step of the process and why that step was important for my recovery. I could tell she really loves her work, and that builds confidence in the patients' minds.
My daughter is an RN/BSN in Portland. She personally witnessed my nurse's work. She was very impressed and told me that Andrea's care and dedication to the patient were well above and beyond anything she had seen in a typical medical setting. My daughter knew that Dad was in great hands. I believe the most important need for customer service and amazing care is in a medical situation where the patient is ill and physically and emotionally vulnerable. This nurse is a star. She is a valuable team member and is a great ambassador for everything that is terrific about Sacred Heart at RiverBend.
