Andrea Coscarelli was recognized by many coworkers as a DAISY Nurse Leader. Some of the outstanding comments were:
"Andrea epitomizes what it means to be a nurse. She cares deeply about her patients and just as much about her co-workers and the entire oncology team that surrounds her."
"Over the past few months, we have compared Andrea to 'Gumby' with arms being stretched in two different directions. Andrea has handled everything that has come her way with grace and compassion."
"She is dedicated to patient care particularly around symptom management."
"She is able to comfort patients and their families, diffuse difficult situations and work to find solutions to issues and concerns."
"Our oncology patients and nurses are so lucky to have Andrea as their advocate."
"Andrea is a born leader, she has made countless contributions, always has everyone's back, and is always willing to help."
"Andrea has been a role model of mine for years. I have learned a great deal from her in terms of clinical skills. She is very generous with her time and is a great source of knowledge."
"Andrea is a truly compassionate individual. She makes a special effort to visit our patients when they are admitted to the hospital and doesn't let them forget that she is thinking of them."
"I think Andrea exemplifies the meaning of a nurse! She is ALWAYS available to her patients (and colleagues) as well as displays empathy. She is giving, caring and 100% supportive of fellow staff and patients and families. A true role model!"
"Andrea makes that personal connection with patients while providing safe, compassionate care. She truly makes her patients comfortable with her."
"One particularly stand out story took place early on in her role as interim Nurse Manager at the BCC. I noticed Andrea in the hall outside the BCC offices with tears in her eyes. Assuming we had placed too much of a burden on her, I asked her if her additional responsibilities were too much. Andrea answered something like this, 'no, I just went to see a patient and his wife who we have been treating. I've become very fond of them and he is close to the end of his life. I'm sad for them.' This is one story, there are hundreds, more. Andrea is a true DAISY Nurse."
