Amy Schrader was my labor and delivery nurse when I had my son. She was so phenomenal at her job, and she made me feel completely 100% comfortable-- considering I was in the most vulnerable state of giving birth.
My son was born about 15 minutes before shift change, and I was so worried that Amy had left without saying goodbye to me, but she hadn't. She came back to my room before leaving to see how I was doing as well as my baby boy. When I told her that I was worried she'd left without saying goodbye, she exclaimed with a laugh, "I would never do such a thing!"
Amy was so helpful and adapted to my wacky sense of humor during the whole birthing process. She even slightly hollered, "I see hair," at my request. My son and I have been into the Women's Health Unit at Memorial to visit friends after they've had their babies. We always try to see if Amy is working to say hi and show her how big my son has gotten.
At one point, I asked Amy if we are allowed to request who our nurse is during labor and delivery for future reference. She said, "Of course! And I will still be here, working to pay off my son's college!" Amy is awesome, and I tell everyone about her. I hope she is still there when I have my future babies, and she can be my nurse again.
