Amy Morrow was an angel. On May 2nd, a code blue alarm sounded after unit huddle. When we arrived at the room, we found Amy had started CPR on a non-responsive patient. Fortunately, the patient regained consciousness quickly after the event started. As staff began to depart from her room, she looked up at Amy, wide-eyed, and said, "You just saved my life, didn't you?" Words could not describe how grateful and thankful the family and the patient were to Amy after this event. They called her their angel.

No one could have expected that after saving a life, hers would be taken so swiftly. Her passing touched every heart at Texas Health Denton, especially those of her co-workers. In the days since Amy's passing, we have seen what it means to be a part of this organization, what it means to truly live the Promise in everything that you do.

Out of this tragedy came inspiring stories of support, empathy, and caring- an outpouring of support from staff in every unit of the hospital- a supervisor from the medical unit that coordinated resources for the staff until leadership could arrive- a nursing supervisor that rounded frequently and prayed with staff- support that continued past that day, into that week, that ensured that every one of Amy's coworkers were able to attend her services- a hospital that reached out and supported a family that was overwhelmed with grief.

It was a moment where despite sadness, we also felt extremely touched and proud to work at this hospital. During this time, we learned that Amy felt the same- her family stated that she had worked a lot of places, but had never felt more at home than with Texas Health Denton. We feel that Amy would be proud of the teamwork and compassion shown that day. We would like to honor Amy Morrow with this DAISY Award for the compassionate nurse that she was and the caring spirit she embodied.
