It is really hard for us to select one standard that Amy excels in because she excels in each and every one.
Mission Driven: Amy is a great example of "bringing to life the healing ministry of Jesus" - while providing exceptional nursing care to her patients in their homes, Amy also offers to pray with them before ending the visit. Many patients have stated this brings them great comfort and peace.
Establishes a special connection with patients and families: Amy not only strives to connect with her patients professionally but she has found creative ways to connect with them on a more personal level. Amy crochets and knits blankets for patient's dogs and has quilted blankets for her terminally ill patients, to comfort them while keeping them warm through some of their darkest days. She not only develops a special connection with her patients; she also has gone out of her way to develop a special connection with her peers. She has crocheted the office staff nameplates with the Mercy logo for our desks as a gift. It was a wonderful surprise to walk into the office and see this special gift on your desk embroidered with your name. To think about the time and talent it took her to do that for all 12 office employees, out of the kindness of her heart!
Respect and dignity for patients: Amy treats all her patients respectfully. When Amy is with her patients, it is as if they are the only ones that exist and occupy her thoughts.
Compassionate care: Two instances stand out when Amy served compassionately. One of Amy's patients had passed away and the wife was very distraught. The family had called the home health office and asked if Amy could come by. Even though Amy had several other patients to see that day, Amy went to their home and sat with her deceased patient's wife until she had calmed down and was feeling better. The family was very appreciative and amazed that she would take the time to do that. Another instance was during a home visit with a patient who was getting tube feeding, Amy found that the gastrostomy tube insertion site was red, irritated, and had developed blisters. Amy called the home health office nurse and asked for us to call the doctor regarding the above. Amy waited in the home with the patient while the office nurse called the doctor and waited for a call back for orders/ instructions which took quite a while. Due to Amy's compassionate care and diligent work, she was able to get this insertion site to heal within 1.5 days.
Positive attitude and professionalism: Amy has a great personality. She comes to the office every morning with a smile and a willing attitude. She is a great example of a 'team player' - she is always volunteering to pick up extra work when she has time to help out her teammates. If one of her teammates needs assistance with a task, if she is able, she readily goes to assist them. Some days are super busy, but she never complains.
We are so very blessed to have her on our team and would love to recognize her for her exceptional attitude and extraordinary work ethic.
