I came to Banner Rehab facility with my dad after a stroke and endarterectomy. We were not from Phoenix and were very unfamiliar with anything or anyone in the area. Amanda Kaye was our first nurse when he was admitted to the rehab center. She was great! Attentive, informational and super friendly all while trying to help each of her many patients. Besides the fact that she was a great nurse, she did something for us that I couldn't have done without her.
Throughout this journey with my dad in Phoenix we had talked to so many doctors, nurses, case managers, and other administrative staff. My goal was to get my dad home safely and as soon as he was healthy to do so. We had one obstacle in our way. Seeing the surgeon to clear him to fly home.
According to some of the staff, the surgeon could not see him until he was discharged, by then the doctor would be out of town. They wanted him to stay for an additional two weeks for the next appointment. I was not going to let me dad stay at a hotel for two weeks to see a doctor that was on the first floor of the rehab building. I told Amanda the issue I was having. She jumped right in and said, "Hold on, I got this!"
She got our nurse case manager and together they procured an appointment 5 days later, a day before my dad was discharged. I cannot tell you how much it meant to me. She brought a little peace to a hard, tiring and frustrating situation. I was so grateful to feel like someone cared and would do whatever they could to help us. Especially when you are stranded in a foreign town away from home and away from all the support that home brings. I only knew Amanda for maybe 12 hours, but I will be grateful to her forever!
