I wanted to nominate a very special nurse of your for the best award available. Amanda Jeffers, or as you may know her as "AJ", is the sweetest, kindest person I have ever met. She cared for me two days in a row. I knew on the first day that she was a sweet girl, but she proved herself to me on the second day. I was having a rough morning and one of the cardiologist's assistants came in and blew me off. She basically told me I would just have to live with my symptoms. Amanda walked in shortly after the assistant left and I was balling my eyes out to the point that I couldn't even speak. She asked me what was wrong, but I couldn't even tell her for crying so hard. She sat with me patiently and patted my back and told me whatever was the matter she would help me get through it. Finally, after I settled down enough to talk to her, I told her the assistant had been very rude to me and told me to live with my symptoms. I told Amanda I thought I had come to the right hospital to get the help I needed only to be blown off again. Amanda looked me directly in the eye and assured me that I was at the right hospital and that I would get the help I deserved. She spent the next 20 minutes consoling me and ensuring that I was taken care of. While I was impressed with all of that, what she did once she left the room, showed what kind of nurse she really is. I don't know exactly what she did, but within minutes of Amanda leaving the room, the assistant returned to my room and apologized for the way she made me feel. The test, I desperately needed, was ordered. I had the financial counselor in my room (I had expressed concerns to Amanda about money). I also had a social worker in my room. Everything I had expressed concerns over was resolved within an hour. When Amanda came back during her rounds, I asked her what she did when she walked out of the room. She held my hand and simply said "my job". You truly have angel on your staff. Don't let her go!
