After receiving her patient assignment, Amanda entered the room and found the patient in acute distress. The patient's BP was extremely low. Amanda immediately went into action notifying the physician, contacting the MET team, starting fluids, etc. It was determined the patient had a GI bleed and was deteriorating quickly. There were no ICU beds. Amanda coordinated and managed the care of this patient by remaining at the bedside constantly monitoring and intervening as needed.

The Mother of the patient stated how thankful she was for Amanda and referred to her as an "angel". Amanda welcomed the mother and family members into the room in between interventions. Her dynamism and compassion were unbelievable. Her response at the end of the shift - thanking coworkers demonstrated such selflessness. The next day when she found out the patient has passed away she felt so much concern for the Mother she called her at home to provide her words of comfort.
