On January 15, 2010, I was hospitalized @ Advocate Il Masonic Unit 9 Stone. Amanda Bonsutto was my regular night Nurse attending to me. I don’t know if Amanda knew this, but by the time she made it in at night time I was a mess. I was very frightened and unsure what the future held for me. I underwent a series of tests for ovarian CA. I felt very alone because everything was happening so fast. My family at home didn’t know the extent of my hospital stay (at my request) because I couldn’t talk about it yet. I was not ready. I did have to have surgery to remove a cyst on my ovaries along with my right tube. Amanda was so caring and pleasant. She educated me about my recovery process every night, assuring me that I was doing fine and would continue to be OK. She gave me hope and I knew I wasn’t alone. She knew my story somehow just by the way she attended to me. Amanda helped to strengthen me on the inside allowing me to heal on the outside. Eventually, after a few days I was ready and well educated and equipped to talk to my child and husband about what was happening with me. I was able to calm their fears and concerns because my fears and concerns had been calmed. I would like to nominate Amanda for the Daisy Award because she is an excellent, professional, and very kind Nurse. By the time I left this hospital I was ready to go home and do what I needed to do to fully recover and get back to normal. Amanda helped me to experience the light in the tunnel as well as at the end of the tunnel! Thank-you Amanda.
