After working with Allyson for only a short time it is easy to see why she has been nominated for these types of awards before. She completely encompasses the ideals of a DAISY Nurse and of our hospital. Upon shift report one morning a code had to be initiated and even though it was the beginning of the shift and she hadn't even time to set her things down, Allyson jumped right in and stayed until the code was transferred to the ICU.
Allyson's compassion and kindness did not stop there, later that same day I learned of Allyson's efforts to track down a patient's family. The patient's condition was so that the patient could not provide the needed information, so Allyson took to the internet and phone book in an attempt to find anyone that might know the patient. She called all the individuals in the phone book with the same last name, with no luck. She even reached out to places of past employment, again with no luck.
When Allyson learned of the patient's pet she was then in contact with all of the animal clinics to ensure the animal would be taken care of. After many hours and lots of research Allyson was able to track down an out of town friend who was the patient's only next of kin. Because of the patient's condition tracking down a next of kin was almost impossible, Allyson embraced what it means to be a patient advocate and even after the events of the morning, she still went above and beyond to make sure that the patient's next of kin was aware of the patient's condition. Allyson is a delight to work with as well as one of the best humans I've ever had the honor of meeting.
