There's never a dull moment in the DEU, but somehow Allisyn cares for individual patients as though they were the only ones on the floor. I have an uncommon autoimmune disease and a current GI complication that sends me to the DEU for hydration several times a week. What could be miserable several hours is actually a joy because when Allisyn is there, it's like being cared for by family. Her humor, competence, knowledge, compassion, and well-timed anecdotes make her an asset and a gem to someone like me whose life is a flurry of medical care appointments, procedures, and crises.
Allisyn has taken the time to get to know me and my unique condition. On her lunch break, she researched my rare illness so she could serve me better. I have friends who put less effort in than that. The gesture meant so much. Her research on her own time, her ability to make me so comfortable and safe that I can forget my chronic pain for a while. Her friendship has all been a bright spot in these recent, hellish months. I could not have survived all this without her, and I'll never forget her. Allisyn is truly extraordinary.
