This young lady entered my room and was bubbly and personable. She introduced herself and the staff for the day, took some basic info and said she would return after her morning rounds with my medications. Upon returning, with my medications, it appeared that whoever took down the information I gave did not pay attention. Most of my daily meds (that I have been on for 35 years) to control my Ulcerative Colitis were to be spread out throughout the day. I did not want to have bowel issues after hip surgery. She called the pharmacy and tried to straighten it out. The pharmacy said one of my meds was PRN and another not in my records. They said that it would be right by the following day. So Alicia then went to another department and picked up the meds I needed for that day.
The following day was the same problem and while in the room she called pharmacy again about the same issue, and it not being resolved. She started from scratch and ran around to locate the meds I needed again! Upon returning. she explained some of the other issues I was having post-surgery with my wife, in regards to an extremely high WBC. I personally have a medical background. She explained everything in a way my wife could understand.
When she had time, instead of sitting at a desk, she would go room to room and visit with the patients and family. It is obvious to myself and my wife that she is one of the most compassionate and caring nurses we have encountered. I worked as a paramedic for 14 years and have had six surgeries also. My wife has had 33 surgeries over the course of the past 43 years we have been together. So we have seen our share of nurses. I feel that Alicia went out of her way to resolve issues that should never have happened (twice) and is well-deserving of the DAISY Award.
