My son C came down with a fever and was struggling to breathe normally. G and I decided to bring him to Dell Children's ER. As it turned out, C had influenza A. bronchiolitis and to top it all off - bacterial pneumonia. He was sick.
Alicia was our night nurse for 3 nights during our stay, which lasted six days. She was downright amazing. So much so, my wife and I gave her a nickname that she earned every night we had her, "The Night Ninja".
The first night we had Alicia as our nurse, C had been given persistent oxygen through a nasal cannula and he often pawed with it. When it would come off, his levels would drop and send an alarm to the nurses. Sleeping next to him that night, he raked the cannula from his nose, and I began to wrestle it back into place on my toddler's face. The alarm started sounding and seemingly on the third or fourth "beep", a set of darkly gloved and highly skilled hands shot across my shoulder to aid in resetting the oxygen tubes. It startled me so much, I did not notice the door open or hear her enter!
Over the next few nights, my wife and I contracted the flu as well and Alicia continued to impress. She went above and beyond by anticipating our needs through personal fever spells as well as providing excellent care to our little man.
The last night we had Alicia she was able to take care of all three of us and startle me twice more while co-sleeping with C. Multiple medicine changes and adjustments to oxygen and feeding tubes, all demonstrating the proficiency that made it look easy.
We would like to thank Alicia for her superb effort and excellent care. This family now has a new standard for a great nurse, thanks to Alicia.
