Over the weekend, my mother was a guest of your NICU. I say "guest" because she was treated wonderfully from dietary to housekeeping. Rehab to your aides and of course the excellent ongoing care you nursing staff provided. One nurse, in particular, Alexis "Lexi", my mother's nurse while in the unit, was very professional! Skillfully doing her job and going about her shift taking care of every detail. My wife and I bonded immediately with Lexi. Explaining to us where Mom was with regard to her status and what would happen next. Lexi put up with us singing to Mom and playing some soft music to rest by, never once interfering with our personal time with her. We all talked about many things but what I remember most was a story she told us about her and her grandfather when they would golf together. A golf day was planned but if it looked as if it was going to rain she said, "I think we are going to get rained out". Her grandfather replied, "It never rains on the golf course." And so off they went. Lexi is a gem in a hospital that serves thousands. She possesses traits that cannot be taught by reading a book. Her actions and love are given to her by "La Famiglia" the interaction with her family and the drive she has will only become stronger as she advances in her career. She has brought her grandfather's mindset to AGH. "It never rains in AGH NICU"
