Alex spent the rest of the day caring for this patient with so much compassion. She gave him a long bed bath with essential oils of his choosing, washed his hair, and brushed his teeth.
We had an LVAD patient who was on our unit for a very long time. Alex had this patient for a stretch of three days, and on the third day, she felt that something was not right. We transferred him to the cardiac chair and within minutes his face turned pale, he began to sweat, his blood pressure dropped, and his VAD flows decreased. She immediately called for help and did not leave her patient's side. After we put the patient back in bed and his baseline returned to normal, Alex spent the rest of the day caring for this patient with so much compassion. She gave him a long bed bath with essential oils of his choosing, washed his hair, and brushed his teeth. The patient and family could not have asked for a better nurse to care for their family member that day. She is an exceptional example of a sensitive caregiver, true patient advocate, and compassionate nurse.
