Alex Rodriguez is very proactive and works in partnership to ensure the day goes smoothly. She checks for bed availability and assesses for discharges, etc. She does her hardest to work with us and helps to solve problems if they arise. She works tirelessly to help facilitate discharges and keep us informed so we can move patients accordingly. She makes sure that the patients have lunches delivered to the unit to the patients who were waiting. She also helps to move patient's upstairs. Without her help, it would have been a much more difficult day. She is an absolute lifesaver.
Alex sees beyond her unit. It is not unusual for her to walk lost patient's family members from the 4th floor to the ground floor and deliver them to the pre-op or PACU areas.
Alex is such a team player. When she is the charge nurse, she always helps with admissions even when she has her own assignment, she still helps others. She doesn't want to have chaos, so she asks everyone to work together and she is always checking with staff to see if they need anything.
Alex's passion for what we do is evident in her persistence to find the safest, most meaningful evidence-based care for our patients. Her desire to share her findings from the PCA project shows she wants other nurses to learn these best practices. I feel like Alex is a great leader for the unit both when she charges and when she has her own patients. You never feel alone when Alex is on your shift.
