Alana is the kind of person who is caring and kind hearted, always putting others first. Alana over the past couple of years has taken the time to nominate many of our nurses for the DAISY awards when she feels as though they go above and beyond but doesn't realize how much she contributes to the quality of care she provides.
A few years ago Alana had to care of a patient that was a Left CDH, she became very close with the family, when the baby past away, this troubled Alana to the point that she wanted to help other families whose babies were born with a Left CHD.
Alana started researching and was the first in our unit to become CCRN certified with only one goal in mind and that was to try to help save our babies with a Left CDH. I remember when she first started this project. Alana would always walk around carrying a huge folder with lots of paper, you couldn't see her from the waist up she was determined to help these little ones and everything she learned she shared with us.
She recently spoke nationally on her project and does a great job in helping the newer staff become comfortable in caring for these little ones. She is never in a hurry to explain things that others don't understand. You should see how her face just lights up when teaching others. Alana is a great Clinical Leader and a role model for me as well as other staff members.
