Just recently a resident was very tearful upon rising in the morning. She explained to both RNs on the floor that she felt trapped and that nobody loved her. The resident has had increased confusion and no longer enjoys the independence she once had. This has been a great source of sadness and anxiety for the resident. The resident expressed the desire to enjoy a little of the independence she once enjoyed. Aimee provided a refreshment and then told the resident she would take her on a walk after brunch if it was still nice outside. The resident seemed to calm down and appeared happier during brunch. Later that afternoon Aimee took the resident on a walk outside for about 25 minutes. The resident wanted to go to the thrift store to buy a dress for Mother's Day. Aimee accompanied the resident to the store and the resident was able to find a blouse and a purse to match. The resident seemed in much better spirits upon arriving back on the unit. Aimee did all of this during her own personal time. Aimee always treats the residents with dignity and respect.

Aimee consistently goes above and beyond for her residents and the staff she supervises. She is excellent at working with residents who have dementia and behaviors, especially with de-escalating challenging situations. She remains calm and patient, using multiple approaches that are often effective when other staff are unable to meet the resident's needs. She also does an excellent job of documenting these incidences and updating care plans in a way that provides better care and quality of life for our residents. It takes a special person to work with those who have behaviors and dementia, and Aimee is very gifted in this area. She also demonstrates and coaches other staff on how to work with them. Recently, a resident who was loud and combative towards others. When working, Aimee would consistently try different approaches until she could either distract or redirect her, while also protecting other residents. Aimee is a huge asset to our LTC.
