Mr. Abdulaziz Alanazi is to be commended and recognized for his untiring efforts to improve both patient and staff satisfaction and for his impressive leadership that supports the team's vision of creating KSMC the best place to work. He is the epitome of an exceptional leader who sets the bar for patient care and safety.
He created an atmosphere of certainty and trust not only to his fellow leaders but to all his employees. He does daily rounds in each unit with a big smile to greets each nurse on duty and appreciates the effort that everyone gives to improve the unit and provide quality care to patients. A selfless, passionate, enthusiastic leader who is inspiring and works tirelessly to make his team successful in providing safe and effective quality care for patients.
Integrity is a very core of his influence and he's able to say, "DO as I DO" rather than just "Do as I Say" because he always leads by example. An innovator and collaborator in the truest sense of the word, he always thinks out of the box to come up with unique ideas and goals and turn them into reality. In the past, we faced many issues related to the tasks given by leaders especially bedside nurses that are beyond nurses' job description. For the months that he became our leader, he initiated and created pathways and protocols of proper channeling and communication with other departments such as a business center for NSB discharge patients, Admission process of Fax acceptance, flexible radiological appointments, coordinated with EMS and supply department so that nurses will not be burdened by these responsibilities. He made sure that each nurse will be more engaged in providing holistic bedside care to patients. All these mentioned interventions by his innovations lifted the unnecessary burden on the nurses, in exchange enabled them to focus their time with their patients.
He established a steady flow of communication between himself and his team members, he listens without being condescending and willing to listen to what others have to say without rushing to judgment. He is patient and genuine in his desire to understand the thoughts and feelings of the people he leads. He is in a position of giving a strong voice for the nurses and advocate for process improvement projects that promote nurses caring for themselves while increasing satisfaction with the work they do. He initiated to have a sign-up board in every unit for all nurses to express their concerns. He definitely knows how to make the voices of the nurses heard and stands by them to fight for their rights. Working under him places us in a safe and healthy atmosphere.
He is also a true manager while advocating for his staff, he is very much in control of how he is managing them. He ensures that the job is properly done and the right person is there in the right place. He sets an example by being always on time, he hates tardiness. He looks at his staff fairly, regardless of race and nationality. He sets the rules for strict compliance through role modeling and compels his team, rather than making us compliant to his role as a leader.
What we admire most about him is the way he inspires, empowers and challenges nurses to be more assertive in providing quality nursing. He appreciates and shows how grateful he is to nurses by giving a "monthly best nurse award" and never misses to hand the certificate himself to the deserving staff and sincerely saying thank them from the bottom of his heart. His most admirable praise is that he never fails to offer words of praise and recognition to all nurses for their efforts, accomplishments, and contributions. He makes himself available to them no matter how busy he is.
He believes in our individual abilities and that we have the potential to learn and excel, he gives us the freedom to make our own choices and decisions in order for us to grow both personally and professionally. I was assigned to handle a new project and new scope of service in my area, he never doubted my abilities nor my capabilities if I can handle this new change, instead, he supported me all the way and he made sure that I get the assistance I need while fully trusting my decisions to run the unit and appreciated the hard work I've put on this project. He also encouraged all leaders to create a performance improvement project and action plan for each unit, one of this was the on-call list for General Hospital Main that supports each department for a shortage of staffing. He makes himself available to us 24/7, sometimes we doubt that he sleeps, as he incredibly makes himself available to us at all times. He is focused on our issues and does a constant follow up to ensure issues are resolved. He is seen everywhere with the regular visits that he does.
We all have room to improve as leaders but his ultimate goal is to be the same: "To be leaders who are loved, admired and respected by people we lead as we motivate and inspire those people to achieve their full potential".
