Ms. Abbigail Cooper came into my room and saw a patient who was very frightened and alone. She also saw a person with hair up in a dip and matted to her head. Hair was tangled and matted, a comb would not go through. I was admitted to the hospital with a broken leg (femur) and after surgery in a lot of pain. I was also admitted with only the clothes on my back.
Abbigail wanted me to wash my hair. I said no as the hair dye I had in my hair would have washed out and the thought of trying to get all the knots and tangles out was too much for me to handle. I also did not want the white/gray hair to be seen. The little pride I had left would be gone.
Abbigail immediately recognized my stress. On her day off, she walked into my room with a package. In the package was a box of Loreal medium brown hair dye, a comb, a brush, and a bottle of detangler. Abbigail proceeded to comb all the knots out of my hair, then dyed and washed my hair. Just getting the knots out took over an hour. In her patience, I had very little hair loss. After she dyed and washed my hair, she dried and put my hair in a French braid. My hair is long, almost to my waist. I felt like a new person.
Abbigail brought back to me my pride, dignity, and strength to get well. There are no words in any language to express what a wonderful, caring, understanding, and heartfelt person Abbigail is. Also, a person with a lot of wisdom.
Abbigail brought back into my life hope and purpose. God Bless Her.
