Zach Murphy and Rebecca Frye took care of my brother-in-law following surgery for a head injury. It is hard to single out just two people out of all the wonderful staff that took care of him but these two nurses were exceptional.
Rebecca was training a GN and was a constant source of compassion and caring combined with quality care and excellent teaching. When the time care to make decisions regarding end of life care, Rebecca quickly made things happen so that my sister and her sons could make timely decisions, yet, she did not push. The one thing that remains in my mind is that she volunteered to work an extra shift so that she would be there when his life support was removed. Her 4 hour extra shift turned into 8 as she stayed by his and our side.
Zach provided competent and compassionate care and was the primary care giver to my brother-in-law. The thing that I will never forget is our conversation about faith and how his faith has impacted his nursing care and his decision to become a nurse. As a family of faith, it is if he was placed there in that room to bring comfort to us, knowing that would ease our burden.
These two fine nurses made a difficult time easier to manage and deserve this award; I could never separate their combined care.
