A 55 year old female patient was scheduled for routine blood tests in the laboratory. She was a known diabetic on insulin therapy. She had completed her tests in the lab and had something to eat as she had fasted for her tests and now needed to take her insulin. She then went to internal medicine clinic in the hope that somebody would administer her injection as she was in the care of a sitter who was unable to give the injection.

To her predicament the nurses were unable to administer the insulin as she was not their patient on that day, Wilfreda Mercado who was allocated to the triage area and nurse clinic for that day undertook the task of requesting for the patient’s file, communicated with the physician to prescribe the insulin and duly administered the insulin for the patient.

The actions of Wilfreda prevented any complications that could have happened to the patient.
