“With over 40 years of bedside nursing experience, Wendy epitomizes the spirit behind the DAISY Award. She is a peaceful yet powerful presence in our department, is nationally certified in adult critical care and yet is arguable our departments finest pediatric nurse. In her hands, our patients from little babies, to small children and their nervous parents and even our elderly and most compromised patients and families are safe, nurtured and expertly cared for. Wendy’s demeanor is calm, focused and completely patient centered, always positive, always professional. Her excellent time management skills allow her to generously assist her colleagues from starting IV’s for other nurses throughout the hospital to answering other nurses call lights. She treats all persons with utmost respect, obvious empathy, an incredibly sweet disposition, and has the unique ability to gently and tactfully exert her will for her patients’ benefit. Wendy’s “healer’s touch” is validated and enhanced by her commitment to evidence based and best practice principles. Recently, she chose to grow professionally by learning a new specialty, maternity nursing. In addition, she is a retired Major in the United States Army and served our Country, caring for the sick and wounded in Kosovo during the Bosnian War.”

“Wendy’s quiet, unassuming manner allows her to accomplish all of this without notice as she tends to shun attention or any form of self-promotion. As a result, her excellence escaped my notice at first. Now in a difficult situation I am well served to ask myself, ‘what would Wendy do?’ Finally, by her example alone, she reminds me to be more humble, more kind, more diligent and patient centered every day.”
