Wendy Gabriel, RN, Adult Observation Unit, Kaiser Permanente, Fontana Medical Center was nominated for the Daisy Award, by a Patient’s Family Member and also nominated by 14 of her coworkers.

The following are excerpts from her nominations:

Wendy Gabriel is a wonderful nurse. I want you to know what a compassionate and caring nurse Wendy is. She always has a smile on her face. She is warm and considerate and very professional. I didn’t have to tell her what my mother needed, she always knew ahead of time and was always checking on her and I knew my mother was in excellent hands. Wendy has a big heart that overflows with love and pours onto her patients and their loved ones. She would always talk to mother in a gentle calm and reassuring voice. My mother was always kept comfortable when Wendy was her nurse. I have noticed the way Wendy interacted with other patients and she consistently treats all her patients as if they were her family. She explains everything in a manner that patients can comprehend. Wendy has this nature about her that is soothing and calming for her patients. She was so attentive to my mother, always anticipating and responding to my mother’s needs.

You would never know if she was having a bad day because she always smiled. She advocates for her patient’s need. She always goes the “extra mile” to ensure her patients receive the highest quality nursing care. I believe Wendy deserves to be recognized for demonstrating how a professional and caring nurse should act every patient, every time. She is deserving of this award for making a genuine difference in the many lives she’s touched by optimizing their care experience, one of them being my mother and I will always be forever grateful.

Comments from her coworkers:

We, your coworkers, would like to recognize you for all your efforts in providing excellent care to patients. You also are a good team player. Even when you are busy, you don’t hesitate to drop what you are doing to start an IV for “hard-stick” patients. You always offer help when you see one of your coworkers struggling with whatever they do. You manage to take care of your “total care” loads with extra “tender care”. We thank you and appreciate you Wendy, you deserve to be named a DAISY Nurse.
