Tracy Wellington from the Trauma Surgical ICU is a deserving recipient of the DAISY Award. We are so appreciative of her outstanding and special service that she gave my brother and us during a terrible period. With my brother, Tracy was as caring as I would want a nurse to be. To us, she was tolerant of our personal needs during this tragedy, patient, explained what she was doing or going to do, explained what others were doing and especially for my wife (and yes, me, too) emotionally supportive.
My brother was from Anchorage, injured in the Yukon and flown to Harborview. We live in Los Angeles and don’t know anyone in Seattle. We had no support system except for each other and some special nurses like Tracy. There were other good and “ok” nurses but Tracy was superior. So much so that we waited a day until she returned from her day off so that she could be with us when we finally had the life support removed from my brother. When this occurred in a private room off the OR there was a select medical group present and they gave some pleasant memories to what was the worst day and time of my life.
Harborview is so, so fortunate to have Tracy as one of their nurses and even more so in the Trauma Surgical ICU, an area that doesn’t always have the best outcomes. I apologize for the delay in submitting this but obviously 7 months later there are people like Tracy that continue to make an impact on us. Thank you Harborview and thank you Tracy, you are beyond a DAISY!
