After receiving bad news in an uncaring manner, I could not contain my emotions, left the room and sat in the hallway sobbing uncontrollably. Although I did not know Tracy, she found me crying in the hallway. She was so kind and you could tell that she cared. She offered her time and listened to me and obviously cared about my mother, as well as my well being. Because I felt the doctor's nurse was not compassionate in her delivery of this news, I asked Tracy what steps I needed to take so "the nurse" could be stopped from speaking to my mother. The doctor was upset at me when I requested that his nurse not care for my mother. He and I became very loud during the hallway discussion. Aware of the hospital hierarchy, afraid for my mother, unaware of my next move, I went to Tracy to see what my next options may be. There were several options and Tracy supported me through them. She made arrangements for me to meet with the Administrator. Tracy made my mother feel "cared for" even though we were complaining. When my mother was transferred to another floor, Tracy came to visit.

Following discharge of the patient, the son, who also had cancer, returned to the hospital and presented Tracy with a photo and poem portfolio of appreciation for her time and guidance to help his mother and him through this difficult situation.
