My brother spent over 100 days at SFH and at Emory in Atlanta. During his stays, he had many nurses and aides with various levels of job and patient commitment. Some were great caregivers while others seemed indifferent. This note is to focus on one particular nurse who excelled beyond all others, and who exemplifies what true Christian nursing should be about. Tesha was one of the last nurses that tended to my brother at SFH. Each time she came in the room, she not only clearly explained what she came in to do, she was prepared for any questions and made it clear that if she didn’t have an answer, she would find out quickly. She had such a welcoming, comforting presence that my brother, and whole family for that matter, immediately looked forward to the days that she would be on duty. She stopped by my brother’s room each night at shift change. After she did her paperwork and was heading out, she’d stop by on her own time, just to make sure that my brother knew she was leaving and to see if there was anything he needed. Over the next week, she continued to check in, even coming to visit one weekend when she was off duty. My brother’s condition was terminal, in home Hospice was recommended. Tesha was instrumental in making the transition bearable. She visited the home a few times. We were surprised too when she showed up for family visitation and his funeral. She went way above and beyond in bringing comfort to my brother and our families. She far exceeded everything expected, but she also performed the duties that were expected to the absolute fullest. I want to thank you, and congratulate, you on your outstanding nurse.
