The staff of 3NW is nominating Teresa Sole, RN for The Daisy Award.
A nurse starts off her practice with kindness and compassion, but there is more… and this is how Teresa shows it. She believes in small wins. Small wins build people’s confidence and reinforces their natural desire to feel successful. Small wins produce results by forming a basis for a consistent pattern of winning. This attracts people who want to be allied with a successful venture. Teresa exemplifies small wins by showing kindness and compassion to all of her patients. She envisions the future and figures out how to make it happen. She wants to improve her patient’s experiences in the hospital and make a difference for them. She envisions 3NW ranking the highest in overall Patient Satisfaction in EHMC. She is excited to see the best possibilities of all on 3NW.
When arriving at the start of her shift, it is not unusual for Teresa to wash a patient that is soiled, refreshing them completely with clean linen while providing them with a gift of fragrance and a smile. Teresa ensures that all of her patients are comfortable and clean. Then she will get them a cup of tea, which she has warned them to sip slowly, which usually puts them in a calm, peaceful mood. She responds promptly to answer their call bells. Her passion and attention to details go hand in hand. Teresa normally comes to work with a shopping bag. Sometimes, inside, there is a pair of underwear, maybe socks or personal toiletries. One time she had a pair of Rosary beads she picked up while on vacation in Europe. Teresa then makes a special delivery to her patient. One of her patients is surprised that he has a set of underclothes, and another is grateful and emotional after receiving rosary beads which he interprets as a sign of hope. Teresa gives those hopes to her patients by being caring, compassionate and kind. Teresa has prayed with her patients. She is their advocate, confidante and so much more. She offers her patients a moment of happiness and provides support to them and their families during challenging times. She is never far from their reach. Families compliment Teresa’s compassion and kindness. Teresa will give up her breaks to provide a family conference and a caring touch to her patients whenever it is needed. If Teresa knows the patient needs something, and cannot get it for them that day, she will make it available for the next day. She does not become overwhelmed with her multiple tasks, but incorporates her time and patience to satisfy her patient needs. Our PCD, Pat Lanzellotti, gets multiple family and patient compliments daily about how special Teresa is. Teresa listens deeply to her patients and promotes free exchange of communication. She is priceless!
