Sue is in every aspect the definition of excellence, leadership, and teamwork that we all should strive for as nurses. Sue was the driving factor in starting a Quality Improvement project in the Kidney Center that helped to standardize safe fluid removal in our unique patient population, and has furthermore lead to an abstract of our work being accepted to present at the Annual Dialysis Conference this coming year. Her drive to continually improve patient care is evident every day and her compassion towards her patients and families shows in the bonds that she has created and the patients who continue to return always asking "Is Sue around?"
Sue is one of the hardest working nurses I have ever had the privilege to be around. Sue puts every effort into her hours at work staying late to make sure every order, lab, prescription, phone call is taken care of and that her patients and families have correctly had all information relayed to them and importantly that they UNDERSTAND what has been relayed. Sue ensures that all communication of information is relayed in a timely and appropriate manner with not just families and patients, but with staff. It is comforting to know when I come to work that Sue is here because I know and all of my co-workers know that anything she deals with will be effectively communicated and handled in a timely, efficient, and professional manner.
Most importantly, Sue is one of the most caring and compassionate nurses who maintains a role as a true leader in our unit. Sue advocates for her patients' and families' needs, and is always the first to lend a hand to her co-workers. Whether she is covering a shift for one of us, or offering to pick up a call day Sue is selfless in offering whatever she can to make sure our unit and our patients succeed. I am so honored to work with Sue and to call her not only my co-worker but a friend. If anyone deserves this award it is the nurse who embodies the heart, soul, and mind of what we were instilled to be as nurses in school and we took our oath as nurses, and that person is Sue.
