My grandmother was admitted to PCU on Friday, August 5, 2011. From the time she arrived, Stephanie went above and beyond to make her comfortable. Stephanie was professional and knowledgeable and could answer my family’s questions and address their concerns. Hospitals make my grandma nervous, but she really connected with Stephanie and was happy to see her return for another shift on Saturday the 6th. I was working on Care Team Center I and went down to check on my grandma and felt at peace knowing my grandma was happy and felt safe under Stephanie’s care. Hearing my grandma and Aunt praise Stephanie’s compassion and Caring Plus attitude made me feel proud to work at such a great hospital with such great staff. That night, Stephanie took the time to call down to Care Team Center I and let me know that my grandma finally fell asleep and was comfortable because she knew I was worried. At about 0100 on Sunday the 7th my grandma coded. I heard them call the code to her room and ran to PCU. Stephanie was already in the room taking charge of the situation and doing everything she could for my grandma. My grandma passed away at about 1050. Even though my heart breaks every day that my grandma is gone, I’m happy that she was under the care of Stephanie who did everything she could for her. I’ve never worked under Stephanie, so I can’t speak as a co-worker, but as a family member to my grandma, I can say that Stephanie is truly an asset to our team at Upper Valley. I saw her in the hallway a few weeks after my grandma passed and she took the time to see how I was doing which meant a great deal to me.
Stephanie not only deserves a DAISY award, she deserves Employee of the Month and Year! Every one of us employed at UVMC can learn from her compassion and professionalism. Having co-workers like her makes me proud to tell people that I work at the best hospital in the entire area!
