I was admitted with chest pain. The tests were abnormal and elevated. This admission seemed like a repeat of the MI one year ago. Stephanie was my day nurse, I was alone and felt as if my condition was discounted since extensive testing was normal. I was in a lot of pain (chest) and was facing a procedure alone. Stephanie and I bonded from the moment she introduced herself at bedside report. She knew I was alone, scared, and I sensed my chest pain was taken lightly. Day of discharge, I cried- unsure of what was going on, would I continue to live with chest pain and have frequent visits to the ER. Stephanie reassured me that the chest pain was real and of concern since there is a history of heart events/episodes. She was my ambassador and comprehended the necessity of my concerns and made me feel the importance of being a patient and being cared for with kindness and attentiveness. She not only provided excellent nursing care but provided exceptional emotional support.
Stephanie took the time to give hugs and allow the flow of tears. She was truly engaged in my care. Her compassion, wisdom, skill, strength, support and hugs were my sunshine on a cloudy few days. Her care could not cure or make the chest pain go away but her care mattered and made a difference in my hospital stay. Stephanie and her sweet spirit lite up my room and I want her to know what a true blessing she was in my care. Stephanie deserves this DAISY for being my sunshine when the skies seemed grey.
