Stephanie makes the time consistently at work to go over and above every single day at work. She is probably the best example of a team player I know, as she steps up at every opportunity to help her teammates when we are short staffed. She is always positive, never grumbles or complains when things get tough. She more likely will laugh and cheer everyone up on a rough day. She is flexible with her shift and will come in early or go home late if the clinic needs more coverage. She precepts and orientates new employees regularly and is a great inspiration to them.
Yesterday, a new patient was assigned to her team. He was very frustrated and was voicing his concerns loudly in the front lobby. His doctor was out for the day, so Stephanie stepped up.
Stephanie invited him back into an exam room to find out how she could help him. It turned out that he was upset as he had been assigned to a female provider and for personal reasons he wanted a male provider. Realizing his dilemma, Stephanie took him out to the clerks and helped him fill out the paperwork to get a male provider and an appointment that suited his schedule.
It would have been very easy to leave the patient to the clerical staff or send him to the ED as his provider was not in the office. But, she went way beyond that and de-escalated a potentially aggressive situation and got the patient exactly what he wanted in a matter of a few minutes. He said thank you and left the clinic. But then, that's our Stephanie!
