Stacy was working second shift and overheard two nurses talking about a 50 year old male patient who was homeless. The patient was currently living with some people who had rats and a very dirty place. The clothes the patient came in with had not been washed in probably weeks. One of the nurse's talked about going to Walmart to buy this man some new clothes to leave the hospital with. Stacy told that nurse not to do that because she has a husband and boys that have clothes that she could give away.

Stacy went home that night and went through several closets of clothes pulling out items that her husband and kids don't wear. Stacy came in the next day, on her day off, to give this patient a bag full of clothes. He looked at Stacy and stated, "I think I am going to have a good day." Stacy left and went home. Later on that night, the charge nurse called her and told her when the patient was discharged, he was all dressed up in his new clothes. The charge nurse told Stacy, when he was discharged he was "Sporting the new clothes."

What Stacy did for this patient models empathy and demonstrates a caring attitude, even with a patient she didn't even know. Stacy also served as a role model in front of her peers as she strives for extraordinary patient care. Stacy exemplified a commitment to excellence by following our mission at Genesis, Genesis Health System exists to provide compassionate, quality health services to all those in need.

Thank you Stacy for following the Genesis values of Excellence, Compassion, Integrity, Safety, and Respect.
