After my husband went to the ICU from the ED our family met Shawn. We were so upset because of so many things, and Shawn came to us. I do believe God placed him there for us on that day. He stayed with us and carefully explained everything. He took the time to see that all of his nurses knew my request for my husband's care. There were so many times that we would get our hopes really high, knowing that it was just a matter of time, and Shawn would bring us into reality. Every day we would hope that he would be our nurse.
He is the most compassionate young man and he cared for our family just as they were his own. I leaned on him so much during those 10 days. He put my heart at a place where I could handle the end of my husband's life. He would make sure that my husband was always bathed, shaved, and clean. That was the most absolute care and commitment I have ever witnessed.
Shawn has a gift. He is caring and compassionate and always gave us a positive outlook every day we were there.
He was mentoring a new nurse and he showed her so much respect that it truly touched me. He is absolutely the kind of nurse that honestly and truly deserves this award. I could go on forever about his excellent clinical ability. My husband was given the most absolute wonderful, positive, and knowledgeable care from Shawn and his staff.
I can positively say he is exactly what this award is all about. Your hospital is so very lucky to have him as a mentor, nurse, and supervisor. I have grown to love him like my own son. I will never forget what he did for us. My husband was put in the care of an Angel. He is resting at the National Cemetery knowing he was given the best of care, love, and compassion. He knows this because of Shawn Hennessey, and we will always be in his debt.
