I was able to have Shannon as my patients' nurse two days in a row. She was just amazing. One birth, she did all of the delivery set up herself (which is unusual) so that the patient could have a quiet birth without a lot of extra staff in her room. She also had a patient with a spouse that was very difficult to work with. She took it all in stride and was able to work with that family in a way that provided a good outcome for all those involved. She adapted her care to make it individualized for that family. ... Shannon shows her love for patients by giving them the best birth experience possible. She is calm, soft spoken when needed. She treats her patients like members of her extended family. Shannon puts her patient, not the chart first. She keeps the lights down low and the room quiet by keeping extra staff to a minimum. This essentially means that she does more work. But by doing so, she creates a healing environment which is hard to do in our busy unit. ... Shannon is very professional in the way she interacts with patients and providers. She does not let stressful situations get the best of her. She is not "task" oriented. She cares for her patients holistically. She is also very attentive during a delivery to the needs of the patient and provider. She educates her patients throughout the labor process. She is fluent in Spanish, which is a plus for her patients. She is willing to "think outside the box" and open to changing care based on the needs of the patient. During the historic move to our new hospital, Shannon brought "stress free socks" to give to the nurses on her unit to help ease the stress of the move. She is also a relief charge nurse and helps with periodic skills check-offs. Shannon's patient care is impeccable. She has set a standard for others RNs to strive to achieve. Her care stands out from her peers. She individualizes her care to the patient. She makes them feel that they are her number one priority. ... Shannon also takes ownership in managing resources to prevent excess waste. She uses supplies conservatively, on an as needed basis. For example, she brings only the needed amount of linens in a room. She doesn't overstock or use the linen frivolously. ... There are many RNs in labor and delivery and they are very good. Then you get to have Shannon as your nurse and you think to yourself "Wow, I wish they could all be like her". Her care is so seamless and she almost makes it look effortless. She is cheerful, pleasant and wonderful to work with. She is an experienced RN who is well respected by her peers and providers.
