Coming to work one morning, there was a patient's chair next to the nurses' desk, which is a sign of a patient in need of close watching. Shannon was observed reassuring the patient that he would not be left alone, demonstrating a very calm and compassionate nature, offering something to eat or drink, or to take him for a walk. She started showing the patient pictures of her pets and the joy that they bring to her family. She stroked his head and calmed him so easily.
It was so early in the morning, and just before change of shift, yet this nurse made the patient feel like he was the only one, and that she had all her time for him. The following night, it was observed that when Shannon entered the patient's room, his eyes lit up "like a 100 watt bulb, smiling from ear-to-ear."
Shannon Hatch goes above and beyond to give that little extra to make her patients feel that they matter.
Shannon consistently provides excellent patient care. Since becoming an RN a few years ago, she has been a source of never-ending questions to expand her knowledge base, and, over the years it shows. She is now one of the most solid Inpatient RNs we have, one that I can consistently count on to provide wonderful care. She has mastered telemetry, been a preceptor and a solid resource nurse.
Thank you, Shannon, for all that you do and to make Bridgton Hospital a better place to work and care for our patients.
