... To receive this award, one should consistently meets the criteria and Shalimar's accomplishments show that she is a stellar in our unit. To further support this nomination I will express more details on her unique characteristics, talents and qualifications:

She is from the AORN and was chosen to be a part of Cardiac OR team. I was amazed with her knowledge, skills and attitude. She always carries smile and welcoming attitude that makes everybody loves her.

Patient first is our focus. Shalimar has heaps of initiatives that help our unit improve our service to meet our vision of being an institution of excellence and innovation in health care. She gives education to the various CVN units about consent and site marking or verification form every two months or every quarter, which helps avoid errors of wrong surgery. The tool that she utilizes for education was requested by other surgical unit which led her to make a hospital roll up banners and screen saver which will be soon displayed in the screens near the elevators.

Shalimar contributes to make our unit/hospital to become a latex free environment. She works collaboratively with Quality Management and other team to create awareness. She did an inventory to identify our supplies which are non-latex free and make the team aware if the patient has an allergy that may contribute to latex allergy.

An extraordinary staff with full of qualities! When our documentation went into a red flag Shalimar helped our unit to resolve the deficiency. As we use a group process technique, she does monthly internal audit and disseminates to our staff the elements that needs to be improved. She was also invited to OR Level 2 to share the audit tool that we used. Hooray! Our documentation improved and we went back to a green flag!

As we update our unit with new technologies, she actively takes participation in driving change. She is working with Preference card/ Pick list process innovation. This will ease and lessen the burden of picking cases, wasting time and cost. She is one of those who are updating and communicating with the staffs working in SURGINET and ORACLE regarding preference cards - these are list of all supplies and instrument that a physician prefers using in a particular cardiac/ thoracic surgery.

As we take our journey to Magnet designation, she contributed during education, kick off and even during site visit. She joined in the Magnet lounge and she engaged herself to attend lectures even though it's beyond time.

I can see how compassionate she is to our patients when she fluently instructs them and their family in Arabic during pre-operative visits. Even for our new staffs, she guides and assists them either in their personal or work needs.

Her concern with the new staffs doesn't end after work. She volunteers herself in helping new nurses during dinner to introduce the Arabic food and culture. She loves people and she gives strength to those new who are around her.

It has been a privilege to work with a brilliant and such dedicated humanitarian individual. You can always feel that she is part of our team. She bestows a helping hand to make the works run smoothly and in timely manner.

Please help me to acknowledge Shalimar Malik's magnificent works and contributions in our department.
