In the two years that Sarah has been a nurse, she has demonstrated great development in her critical thinking and judgment skills. This past year Sarah cared for several patients who were complex physically, as well as emotionally and socially. Sarah provided excellent care to these patients, diligently collaborating with many health care team members to achieve the best outcomes for these patients. During the often hectic evening shift, Sarah balanced care of these patients while often admitting and discharging several other patients. She consistently assesses situations and prioritizes the needs of her patients and strives to meet those needs efficiently and in a caring manner. Sarah exemplifies both the art and science of nursing.
Sarah is extremely passionate about providing the best and safest care to our patients and families. She approaches each patient interaction as an opportunity to build trust and develop relationships with those for whom she cares. Throughout her shift, Sarah can often be found cuddling infants or entertaining school age children while balancing many other responsibilities in her nursing role. This is appreciated by both patients and families, as noted in the following parent nomination:
Our little 4-month-old baby was admitted to Children's after being diagnosed with a respiratory infection. She required regular monitoring of her oxygen levels, heart rate, and deep-lung suctioning. Sarah was our first nurse when we got to our room and, immediately, she put 3 plus days worth of parental stress and anxiety to rest. She cuddled our little girl and even made her giggle despite her crankiness. Her calming, caring nature, wonderful sense of humor and constant support helped us all relax and definitely helped our baby recover more quickly.
