Earlier this week I delivered our second son- both times here at Sibley. I had forgotten just how wonderful your nursing cadre is! They truly made my 4 day recovery from my C-section a tolerable and even enjoyable one!
The day my son was born was extremely hot outside (over 100 degrees F) and the hospital rooms were more than uncomfortable. The surgery was more challenging than my first and I was in a lot of pain. My veins kept closing up and I had already gone through several "sticks" for my first IV catheter, which then fell out. This nurse had just come on duty as my night nurse and immediately started helping me through each of my challenges. She brought in several fans to help cool the room down. She brought in some of the best nurses to try to re-do my catheter--- and when they failed too, she called in the anesthesiologist. She knew from my clear level of exhaustion and frustration that I couldn't tolerate one more unsuccessful IV catheter stick without a major emotional breakdown. I had her for my third night and she quickly helped me address pain with ice packs. She also helped me in a way that preserved my dignity.
Honestly, "things" she did aren't what's most important. It's really the way that Sarah practices nursing that really stands out, even above your other phenomenal nurses here. She is relentlessly supportive and proactive at treating her patient's issues, uncommonly empathetic, creative in finding ways to address unique needs, patient, and attentive. She also has a way of making her patients feel totally comfortable discussing even the most personal and embarrassing issues. And she does it all with a positive attitude and caring smile on her face! Sarah's ability to make me feel at ease, safe, and cared for when I was in excruciating pain and discomfort, all the while helping me take care of the new amazing child in my life and even sharing my joy, was just outstanding.
Sarah is an amazing woman and brings great credit to your hospital. Most importantly, she has made a huge impact on me as a patient!
